Anne struggles with many family problems mostly with her mother but also her sister when she's becoming insecure about her appearance. In addition to living in fear of being discovered and taken away by the Nazis she's being kept awake every night by more frequent allied air raids " we don't have a single quiet night" she says. Anne's birthday is celebrated and she receives presents from a family in hiding. By the end of this first year you get to see the difference in the way Anne feels she goes from being a very spoiled girl to someone who can analyze situations and characters. At the end of these chapters the Nazis began to move quickly and new regulations are set that all civilians must turn in the radio.
The tone in Anne Frank's Journal begins to change her entries are now beginning to show an increasing sense of sadness, depression and loss as she's grieving for loved ones who are gone and for the jews. She begins constantly having nightmares and being woken in the middle of the night. She writes longing to go outside and walk freely or to do the things young people get to do but most of all she wants to have fun. Later on the probability of an invasion of the forces fighting against the Nazis increases and all sorts of rumors and speculations are considered tough people are very excited.
