Hey Tilden and Morgin ,
Great effort today, and excellent results- Spanish Rice, each time different, always a hit! You're really getting the process down and reliably tasty!
The sausage and veggie stew took lots of attention and focus for prepping, sautéing and seasoning. I appreciate the enthusiasm and willingness to learn and practice knife skills and following recipe instructions. The payoff is cooking confidence and a delicious result!

Chapter 18 summary

They were sitting at the fire and heard a noise. Billy got up and heard men shouting trying to find them. All of them started shouting at each other and then the search party found them. But  the search party realized that one of their guys was missing. So they started shouting for him and he soon showed up. He said he saw something that looked like a ghost but it was  just Billy's dogs. They split up, some people stayed and made a sling to carry the grandpa back to camp, and the others went with Billy to find his dogs. When they found them the dogs were treed, they got the coon and went back to camp. Billy won the cup and over 300$ in cash. After this the grandpa was taken to town to get his ankle checked. While Billy and his father went home.

Chapter 17 summary

As they were out there hunting a bad storm came. Sooner than later they couldnt see anything and they lost the dogs. They listened and waited to hear just the slightest thing, but there was nothing.  A tree fell and then that's when Billy got an idea. He turned to his dad and told him to shoot the gun because if Little Ann could hear it she would come to them. He shot the gun and she slowly started to appear but there was no sight of Old Dan. Billy told Little Ann to lead them to him and that's what she did. They found him treed he wouldnt leave and then they realized that the grandpa was gone. They went back for him and they found him with his face in the snow and he had a sprained ankle. They took him to shelter and made a big fire and went back to the dogs. They looked all around the tree, but couldnt see anything. Then Billy's father hit it a couple times and they realized that it was hollow.  His father started chopping at it, he soon asked for the judges assistance to help him push it over. When they finally got it down the tree broke in half and inside were three coons. One got away but the dogs got two of them. When they went back to the fire Billy told his grandfather what happened and pointed in the direction of where the other coon had gone off to and right away the two hounds were off again. Billy took the skins of the coons, warmed them up on the fire and placed them on his grandfather's foot, he did that all night long. 

S.S summary

Today we learned about a conflict within Islam. The Muslin Governor went north and surrendered his city. The catch was that he still got to remain Governor. Sharlamain was given a white elephant. What he did not know is that it was worthless. He had the elephant for 8 years. There was a place that had a population of half a million people. It was a big deal there, a nun even worshiped it and she thought that it would  be the best place in Europe. It became a senator of science.

Chapter 16 summary

The day had come for Billys hunt. The judge came and introduced himself and they were on their way. They got two coon and right as the team thought they were beat because a coon tricked them and it was daylight, Little Ann treed one. They killed it and skinned it and went back to the campground the judge held up the 3 skins and everyone cheered. They had made it to the finals. Later that day a man showed up with a little box full of money, everyone had agreed to make a jackpot for the winner. The man told the team and left. Billy tried to get some sleep but couldn't because his grandpa snored so loud.The last night was like the second, no one had gotten more than two coon. Then it was time for the final hunt they went out and got one coon. Then the dogs went back to there hunt.

S.S summary

Today we learned about a conflict within Islome. One of their problems was that other tribes would come in and they were muslom but they wouldn't follow the leader. Mahamad died and Ali became leader. In 661 ali was murdered with a dagger. People wanted to have Alis blood be a leader. So Hanson became leader and was poisoned by his wife. North Africa tribes made two kingdoms.  A man fought in battle he won and became general

Exsplanashoin on not getting work done

I did not finish last week's work on time because for one I just didn't want to and for two i didnt have alot of time. Friday I had a cooking class from 8:00am to 3:00pm then I took the dog for a walk and right after I went and watched a family friend that I hadn't seen in awhile. We watched her rope. I didn't do it then because that was one on one time with my dad that i didn't want to spend doing school after we went to dinner then my dad took me back to my nanny and papas and i just went right to bed. Saturday i woke up at 11 am had breakfast then went to the store to get groceries and i couldn't do it  before because the power went out so we didn't have internet and you might be thinking kindle downloads to your devise and you would be right but google docs doesn't work without internet and where my grandparent live you don't get seves so we had nothing and my computer wasnt working as well. When I came home I made brownies and I gave the dog a bath. I filled my baby bottle and drank from it. I took the dog for a walk. Spent time with my dad. Then I went swimming, came home had dinner and then said goodnight to my dad. Watched some of a movie with my family. Then I looked at yearbooks then went to bed. Woke up at 8:30 and had breakfast with my family, fed the dogs and went to a track to watch a family friend race. That went on for like 3 hours then i went on a little trip with my dad, got home at 7:30 went swimming again came home hong out with my dad and went to sleep. This morning I woke up at 6:40 at breakfast while I did the thing that I didn't do last week, got my stuff ready, got in the car read some more and finished it here.

S.S summary

The christains made a rule that if you circumcised your baby you would get castrated, this was a jewish tradition. The belief slowly started to die that there were multiple gods. 400 muslams went to spain and got ignored so they went back and got more people. Once they beached their ships tereeck burned them so the muslims were forced to fight. Rodrick the king of the Visigoths came down to fight Tereeck and lost. Rodrick died and was the last king of the visigoths. 

Chapter 15 summary

They arrived at a campsite to stop at for the night. Billy's grandfather made supper while Billy and his dad set up camp. Billy was about to feed the dogs when his grandfather stopped him and gave him something else. Billy put the food in front of Old Dan first,but Old Dan wouldn't eat. Billy's grandfather was confused by this, he asked why old Dan wasn't eating. Billy explained that the reason was because Little Ann hadn't gotten her's yet. They all had a conversation on how the two were so close. They soon went to sleep but Billy could not fall asleep once he heard the sound of two screeching owls. That was bad luck and the sound of billy sitting up woke up his grandfather. His grandpa just told him that it was a myth and to go back to bed. So Billy told himself that it was one owl that had just switched trees. The next morning they all had breakfast packed up and were on their way. They were looking for a white flag and Billy was the first one to see it, they arrived and were amazed at all of the people. The first part of the competition was a beauty contest. Billy chose Little Ann for this; he used butter and his grandpas combs. Once he was done Billy took her to the table and they started eliminating dogs one by one and then there were two Little Ann and another dog. Little Ann won and then they went back to the campsite. Later that night all of the men had to draw a card to see which night they would hunt Billy got the fourth night.

Chapter 14 summary

Billy got a message that his grandpa wanted to talk to him. He headed over to the store and his two hounds followed. When he got there him and his grandpa started talking about Rubin, his grandfather wanted Billy to know that what happened was not his fault. Then he told Billy about a championship coon hunt. He told him that he had already paid all of the fees and had entered him too. Billy agreed to go, and his grandfather said that he would like for Billy's father to go along as well. When Billy got home he asked his father to go. His father thought and wasn't really open to the idea. He said that he had chores and he didn't want to leave billys mom there alone. Billy's mother said that she would be fine and that she wouldn't need help for months, then Billy realized that his mom was pregnant. After he went up to her gave her a hug and a kiss and went back to his seat. All of the family waited in silence for the father to answer and he said yes. The next day Billy and his father walked down to the store and then they were on their way.

CATCHING UP: The health journals need serious updating over the weekend. Please get on that. Morgin - your efforts were noted but not good enough. Tilden - you are way far behind. Morgin - you had plenty of time to catch up on reading and writing to your portfolio. Please write a one page explanation for why you did not complete your work last week.

Social Studies: the last 11 min of lecture 7

Notes: The main focus for this week is acting honorably - be kind, speak kindly while respecting those with more wisdom than you, and honor yourself by cleaning up after yourself, getting enough sleep, eating well, and be honest with the people you care about.

Note 2: Focus on honing your writing to be absolutely perfect. No silly sentences - they need to be helpful to the reader and easy to read. You've been improving with punctuation - keep it up. Keep helping each other. It's really coming along with each passing week. You'll be writing as as well as high schoolers very soon. 👍

S.S summary

Today we learned about the new religion Islam. They thought that the way to speak to god was for them to have a speaker for the human voice. They had a holiday where  Muslims did not eat or drink during the day, and then they would celebrate and eat during the night, they would do this for a month. It was called Ramodon. At some churches they would have fountains for people to wash themselves. They traveled through Africa to get to Spain and have a war with the christans.

Good morning! Today's work is shared in your weekly plan. Read chapter 14 today. We will try to get through the next lecture for Social Studies

NOTE 2: from now on.... There will be NO chore checks before 4:00. When you get to the point where your chores are always done perfectly then we can discuss playtime before 4:00. Earn it. 😁

Chapter 13 summary for "where the red fern grows"

Billy walked up to the tree to see if he could see the ghost coon. Billy decided he would climb it to see if the coon was there, he couldn't find it so he came down he climbed it 2 more times and on the last time he said if i can't find him then i will pay you Rainie. He came down and saw that his dogs couldn't find that coon and he knew if they couldn't he couldn't either. He pulled out his two dollars and paid up, but right after he realized that little ann had gotten a scent from the coon. He turned to Rainie and said "that two dollars ain't yours yet". He  then realized that the coon wasn't in that tree he was in a different one. Billy climbed the tree and there it was. He started heading toward it and it let out a cry that Billy just couldn't tak. Billy climbed down and explained to the two boys that he didn't have the heart to kill the coon. Billy then asked for his two dollars back and the boy refused. Billy explained that the deal was I had to tree the coon and I did. Rainie argued back and said the deal was you had to kill the coon. This argument went on for a while. They then heard a sound but it was just the other boy's dog. It was old and it went over to old dan and soon a fight started between the dogs and all of the boys. Billy was trying to get rubin to let him go, rubin refused until he noticed that billy's dogs were going to kill there. Rubin grabbed the ax and said "im gonna kill those dog" but he tripped and billy rushed over to his dogs to get then to stop he did and then he tied them up and went over to the two paralized brothers he put his hand on Raines shoulder but Rainie screamed and ran off into the darkness. Billy looked down at Robin, he was dead. He got his dogs and went home to tell his parents everything that had happened. His dad and other people in the town took care of the accident. Billy snuck out of the house and went to Rubins grave to pay him some respect after billy felt much better.

Good morning! Today's work is shared in your weekly plan. Read chapter 13 today. We are skipping Social Studies because we have therapist appointments and refrigerator deliveries this morning at 9:00.

Today we learned more about how the visigoths united Spain. The Gothoms raided places and you could tell who was more wealthy by the amount of gold they had. The people got all their faith from churches in tiny towns. A smart man came from Greece and taught the people of spain. He had principles to keep the studies in line. 

Chapter 12 summary for "Where the red fern grows"

Billy was the best coon hunter in town and everybody knew it too. That day Billy had to go to the mill and get some cornmill for his mom, so he first went to his grandpa's store and they went together. While they were there they met up with some boys that were just trouble. The one boy wanted to make a bet, at first Billy said no but his grandpa pushed him to take it so he did. The bet was Billy had to tree "the ghost coon". This coon was the smartest coon in town and if his hounds treed him billy would get 2$. After Billy agreed they arranged a time and place. Billys granfather and him had a short talk and then he was off for home. The next day he went to the designated spot soon after him and the two boys started hunting. After lots of chasing from the dogs finally Billy thought that they had treed the coon but then he soon realized that he could no longer hear little and he knew that something was wrong. Little Ann had fallen into a hole she climbed out and started easing down the tree to the water, she had got a scent. She caught the coon and chased him. He got tired and went to the tree he always goes to when he gets tired.

You start a new Outschool class today at 1:00 called "Where in the World?-European Explorer."  This will be every Tuesday at 1:00 until April 20th. Please take a few minutes before your class to read the course description as there will be activities and assignments for which you will need to prepare.  We are looking forward to dinner conversations about the places in Europe that interest you to explore in our field trips to come!

Notes: We are leaving for the coast this afternoon, after your day in Corvallis, so please get your chores done and be packed this morning.  While it will be about 10 degrees warmer in Waldport, it'll still be wet and in the 40s.  So please bring warm clothes and rain gear for exploring the beach timbers and making more bridges.

Where the red fern grows chapter 10 summary

Billy wondered what old Dan would do if little Ann got into trouble and one night he got his answer. A blizzard came, with this the temperature dropped and the ground was slick as glass. That night he went hunting with his dogs. As the dogs were running after the coon suddenly billy couldn't hear them anymore it was silent. He went to the river and saw little Ann was going to drown. He realized that there was nothing to do so he prayed and asked for a miracle. Right after he heard a strange sound it was his lantern right as he was about to pray again he realized that the lantern was his merical. He made a hook, went into the water and fished her out. She wasn't moving and her body was too cold so he wrapped her in his clothes. He made a fire and wormed her. She started to wake up and move, she was weak but would live on. He went home and didn't tell his mother or father what happened to little Ann. For the next 3 days he had a terrible cold. 

S.S summary

Today we learned about how the Visigoths united Spain. Romans gathered everything they could to move the Goths to Rome. They even used hollow tree trunks as boats. But one mistake that they made was they didn't bring enough food. The Goths raided Rome and killed one of their  emperors. The leader of the goths died in 401. The Visigoths conceded Galithia after they conceded Rome.
