Instead of Roatan this week we were assigned to do it on crabbing. This Saturday we did it off the dock with net crab pots. We didn't catch any keepers so we just got practice with grabbing them. When grabbing a crab if you grab the back then you can't really get hurt from it. The difference between male and female is the shape of their abdomen. A male will have a long and narrow shape, a female will have a short and wide shape. The reason that you need to know the difference is because females are illegal to keep. We also learned that the crab has to be 5 ½ inches wide. A common bait is chicken, but you can add things like smelly jelly or cat food.
