Chapter 2 summary

The next day, Ponyboy and Johnny went with Dally to a double feature at the drive in. They sit behind a group of socs girls, and dally begins talking dirty in an attempt to make them uncomfortable. A girl turns around and calmly asks him to stop. But Dally continues. When he goes to get Soda, Ponyboy and the girl, Cherry valance starts to talk. They talk about the rodeo and Sodapop which Cherry describes as a "doll". Ponyboy tells her that Sodapop dropped out of school to work in a gas station. When Dally returns he offers Cherry a soda which she throws in his face, and when Dally tries to force his arm around her Johnny tells him to leave the girls alone. Dally leaves and Cherry invites Johnny and Ponyboy to watch the movie with them. Two-Bit one of Johnny's friends and announces that Johnny has slashed Tim shepherds tires the leader of another greaser gang, and they will have to fight each other. Cherry and Ponyboy go to get popcorn. And Ponyboy tells her about the time the socs beat up Johnny, Cherry assures Johnny not all socs are as violent. She also tells him socs also have problems just as greasers do but Johnny doest believe her.
