Chapter 13 and 14 summary

Chapter 13 and 14

While Brian tries to find foolbirds, as he calls to the chicken like birds he found. Brian's gut tells him that something is lurking close by. In the corner of his eye he spots a beautiful big wolf, it then walks away from Brian and up the hill, followed by 3 more. After the plane flys over him without seeing him Brian feels deeply defeated. With the feeling eating him up he even tries to commit suicide by cutting himself with his hatchet. When he lives on, he promises to never let death temp him again. At that moment he decides to transfer himself into the "new Brian". He finally discovers how to catch many fish in the lake when he realizes he must account for the  refraction of light underwater and readjust his aim. He catches many fish and feasts on them, happy with his achievement he feels he has hope. The thing is this hope makes him sad and he realizes that the chances of being found are slim. A skunk comes to search the spot in the sand where the turtle had laid its eggs. Brian yells at the skunk, which sprays him as a reaction. Nearly blinded for two hours as a result of the spray. Brian wanting to wash himself runs into the lake. The skunk had also eaten the eggs that Brian stored on the shore, because of this incident Brian learned two lessons: make a strong shelter and put food in its place where it is protected. Spending many days strengthening his shelter with additional wood and finding a high tree where the bears can't  reach and he could hide the food. But he still faces a lack of food problems. After brainstorming about the food problem here resolves to construct a small pond in which he may store the fish he has caught attracted by the remains of the fish he had already eaten. Brian demonstrates his planning but only finding food for the moment, but he's also filling some system of storage for the future.
